LuK counts among the leading manufacturers of power steering pumps in Europe. 95% of all power steering pumps used in power steering today work with double stroke vane pumps, an integrated current regulating valve and pressure control valve. This construction concept was used for the first time in 1925 in an Oldsmobile and has been continuously developed ever since.
So, through the use of products such as special LuK energy-saving pumps, energy consumption can be reduced by up to 50%. LuK power steering pumps can be combined with other pumps to form tandem pumps. An additional vane cell part can be used for diesel pre-delivery or as a vacuum pump.
The construction of power steering pumps for commercial vehicles must provide optimal loading of the suction chamber at high delivery volumes. The plates made of layered material offer optimal running characteristics and a long life. The efficiency even at high operating pressure (up to 180 bar) and extreme temperatures (-40 to +135 °C) is excellent.
Power steering pumps are subjected to extremely low wear. Important requirements to ensure fault-free function are, however, maintenance of the correct oil level and regular inspection of the connection to make sure it is leak-tight. In the event of problems and faults, the pump should always be completely replaced.
